DC Universe Presents: Deadman #2

Unlike Jesus's God, Deadman's God actually appears to help quell his doubts. Which makes me suspicious! God didn't answer Jesus because of some faith thing or God knowing all the answers and knowing Jesus didn't actually need to be spoken with or some other God nonsense. But Rama comes right to Deadman thinking he might really kill himself.

If all of this were simply an opportunity for Boston Brand to better himself or his karmic self or whatever, Rama could simply just shrug and go her own way. But if Rama has some selfish plan in the works, of course she would appear to prevent Deadman from ruining it.

Brand just wants to know what most of the other people still alive want to know:

The answer: no purpose and no end.

When Deadman next asks Rama why he still sees the people he's previously possessed, it takes her three panels to come up with an answer.

Liar!

She's definitely up to something! And Deadman reaches the same conclusion!

Deadman goes off to infiltrate the Moonstone Club in Gotham City so that he can find the book of his life kept in the basement of this paranormal hangout and guarded by an old lady half-fallen angel named the Guardian.

You'd think as a guy who can simply possess other people, this would be easy. Except he runs into a few obstacles along the way.

A runic stone that can identify spiritual hitchhikers.

Not knowing the staff.

A woman who can see ghosts.

And needing to go find a mirror to masturbate in front of after possessing this woman.

He does some stand-up in there too at one point. He does eventually make his way to the librarian. After threatening to pull off her wings, she gets the book of his life which is 1000 volumes of 1000 pages each and linked to thousands of other lives. It's written in Aramaic and typeset in Braille, so the librarian has to read it to Deadman.

Conclusion:

Ha ha!
