Supergirl #10

Flying into the chest of the Black Banshee is like entering the moongate in Ultima. Now Kara has new armor and a sword and she's fighting dragons.

Supergirl finds herself in a world created by her own memories. She was too powerful for The Black Banshee to completely incorporate her into his being and now he's struggling to absorb the last of her individuality. She's reliving a time when her mother took her to a Kryptonian Matchmaker to set her up for an arranged marriage. At this moment in her life, she felt she had no control. She felt no choices were hers. And that's what Black Banshee wants her to feel again so that he can crush her spirit. When he thinks her will is weakened enough, he makes an appearance in the memory.

A flamedragon! Did the DC editors mandate dragons and dinosaurs in every title this month?

The Black Banshee chooses the wrong form to attack because it causes another memory in Supergirl. This one about her father and tales he told of warriors fighting dragons. She gains strength from a happy memory of her father and ends up outfitted in battle armor. But the dragon knocks her into the water and when she surfaces, she's in yet another memory: the Crystalline Forest where her mother and father first met.

The landscape of Krypton just sounds like a mediocre children's fantasy novel. The Crystalline Forest and the Firefalls! Next they'll venture through the Great Desert and cross the bridge over The Restless River to Candy Mountain. But look out for The Desolate Marshes where madness dwells!

Once she climbs out of the Camp Crystalline Lake, she meets Siobhan's brother, Tom. Surprise! Everyone who knew she was going to find him here and they were going to defeat the Black Banshee from the inside, raise their hands? Okay, enough bragging, you lot. Wasn't hard to see this one coming, was it?

Do you think he masturbates while inside his father?

Tom learns that Siobhan is currently fighting their father and he's desperate to get out and help her. Kara thinks she can help them escape by utilizing her yellow sun energy reserves.

Hey! That's the official sound effect of a vagina exploding!

With her magical exploding vagina sword, Kara defeats the Black Banshee flame phallus dragon and frees herself and Tom from inside Black Banshee's world! Hooray! They end up on the streets of New York with the Black Banshee howling in pain and screaming cliches.

With the distraction of people being birthed out of his torso, The Black Banshee loses focus and Siobhan the Silver Banshee absorbs him! She almost freaks out and goes all Dark Sidey for a second but then she sees her brother and changes back into a human. And everybody lived happily ever after!

First Rule of Supergirl Comic: Action! Action! Action!

Supergirl and her friends flee the scene again and head back to Siobhan's apartment. But if anybody thinks they'll get any rest there, they've got another think coming! The one page epilogue shows some guy in a suit that can change the wearer's identity is prepping for Mission Codename: Supergirl! I'm sure he'll give Supergirl no time to relax before attacking next issue.

Supergirl #10 Rating: No change. This 20 page issue played out just like I said it would at the end of my last commentary: "And next issue, the story will probably deal with Supergirl inside some spectral world where she’ll meet Siobhan’s brother Tommy and they’ll figure out a way to defeat The Black Banshee from the inside." Did I even need to read it? Probably not.
