Blue Beetle #13

I knew Skywitness would be back! He must have been teleported to The Reach as well.

Blue Beetle has been teleported to Sector Two just a few minutes flight from Reachworld, his scarab's creator's homeworld. He was attacked by a variety of other alien Blue Beetles as soon as he appeared and is currently retreating toward Reachworld, a very fucked up place.

This is my favorite world in the DCnU.

Jaime manages to get his Scarab to distract everything trying to kill him so that they can evade pursuit and land safely on Reachworld. Immediately upon landing, Blue Beetle meets an Reachworld drone speaking Old Portugese [sic].

It's saying, "Pull my finger." I think it's always better to not translate DC's "Old Portugese" [I said SIC!].

Apparently Jaime mistranslates the creature and gets it to pull his finger.

The Pheremones help Jaime pass as a native bug.

The Blue Beetle Suit has a function for everything. Need to destroy your enemies and make them flee before you? No problem! Need to curl up in a defensive ball as fifteen muscular assholes kick the shit out of you? Easy peasy! Want some native bug creatures to be your friends? Just activate the fart mechanism and you're homefree. Hot half-naked alien straddling your junk? Sorry, no defensive mechanism to hide your boner. Deal with it.

With all of the mechanisms available to him, Blue Beetle walks about harmlessly on Reachworld. The Blue Scarab even gives him a tour of the place. Here's the brothel; there's the deli; over this way is the cemetery of the Unknown Bug Soldier. They continue on to the spaceport unaware that Sky Witness has dragged his dessicated ass out of his tomb to follow them because he wants his bug back.

Blue Beetle attempts to enter the spaceport to steal a ride home when the Soldier Drones stop him and demand identification. His farts can't fool these guys so it looks like he's in big trouble when Khaji-Kai comes to his rescue. Khaji-Kai is the Blue Beetle that led the attack on Odym, the Blue Lantern's homeworld. He experienced a moment of free will as Saint Walker tried to heal him with his ring. And ever since then, he's been fighting to control his scarab the way that Jaime can control his.

That something that happened to him is the attack on Odym that I just described.

Khaji-Kai promises to take Blue Beetle back to Earth after Jaime helps Khaji-Kai destroy the world where the Scarabs come from. Jaime doesn't really have much choice so he goes along. Besides, he'll be helping the universe destroy a major weapon of The Reach. Sky Witness tries to enter their ship but they take off before he can board. He ends up hijacking another ship and following them to Scarabworld. That story will be in Issue #14.

Sky Witness spent so long in contact with the Blue Scarab that his flesh has become somewhat like the Blue Beetle Armor. He also seems to be able to spit out veiny, disgusting red web things to tie up his enemies. He's also missing most of his face. He's a gigantic mess. I don't think he's going to pose much of a threat to Blue Beetle.

Blue Beetle #13 Rating: No change. The art in this issue was great as always but Brenda never made an appearance, so that was sad. It also seemed like a trip to Reachworld was going to be an awful place full of excitement and danger. But all Jaime had to do was release a decoy bug and fart in the faces of the natives and he was free to roam the entire planet. And Sky Witness seems like one of those bungling enemies that will always just miss getting his chance to kill Jaime while Jaime goes the whole time never even realizing someone was out to kill him. Just watch! Next issue, Sky Witness will fail miserably and Blue Beetle will be none the wiser.
